Defined the pensions of retired teachers and university professors: how much will they rise next quarter
Retired non-university teachers in Argentina will see a 5.28% increase in their pensions for the upcoming quarter, while university professors will receive a 4.26% increase, both of which fall short of the recent inflation rates.
In Argentina, nearly 200,000 non-university retired teachers are set to receive a pension increase of 5.28% for the months of March, April, and May, as reported by official sources. Additionally, around 13,000 retired university teachers will see a 4.26% increase in their pensions. However, these adjustments are notably lower than the inflation rates observed in the past three months, indicating a potential decline in purchasing power for these retirees.
The pension adjustments for both groups are based on a specific quarterly mobility system that calculates increases according to changes in the salaries of active teachers who contribute to the National Social Security Administration (ANSeS). This is known as the "Average Taxable Teacher Remuneration" (RIPDOC) for non-university teachers, and RIPDUN for university professors. It is important to note that these calculations do not include various non-remunerative increases that active teachers may receive, which could result in inadequate pension adjustments for retirees.
Historically, the pension increases for retired teachers in Argentina have fluctuated significantly. For instance, in 2025, increases for national retired teachers were recorded at 10.61% for the March-May quarter, followed by 13.59% in the next quarter, and 6.9% in the subsequent one. The pattern of adjustments indicates ongoing challenges in keeping pension increases in line with inflation, which raises concerns regarding the financial stability of retired education professionals in the country.
