President Yoon focuses on political planning during Lunar New Year without public schedule

President Yoon Suk-yeol will concentrate on political planning during the Lunar New Year period without any public engagements.

South Korea's President Yoon Suk-yeol has decided not to schedule any public engagements during the Lunar New Year, with plans to focus on political strategy and address various domestic and international issues. A source from the Blue House indicated that the President aims to evaluate both the current domestic political situation and pressing matters in areas such as economy, society, welfare, trade, diplomacy, and security.

This decision comes amid escalating tensions in the political landscape, particularly due to the ongoing standoffs with opposition parties. President Yoon has been advocating for swift legislative processes, which highlights the current government’s priority on effective governance. Previously, on January 12, he was set to meet with the leaders of the ruling and opposition parties over lunch to urge them on legislative matters; however, the meeting was canceled last minute due to the absence of the main opposition leader.

As the New Year unfolds, the President is expected to prepare for upcoming foreign diplomatic engagements, notably a state visit from Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, wherein discussions and a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) are planned. This reflects an active international agenda despite the domestic political challenges, demonstrating the administration's dual focus on both internal dynamics and global relations.
