Cold winter weather expected on Saturday

Estonia is set to experience cold winter weather on Saturday, following a storm that has brought snow and blizzards to southern and eastern parts of the country.

Estonia is bracing for cold winter conditions this Saturday as an active low-pressure system that has brought snow and blizzards to southern and eastern regions moves on to the northeast towards Russia. As the storm exits, high-pressure begins to strengthen over Scandinavia and Finland, extending south-eastward. Although precipitation will clear from the country by midnight, strong cold winds are expected to persist as the pressure systems interact.

The night will commence with snow and blizzards in southern and eastern Estonia, while the western and northern parts of the country may experience dry weather but with potential for surface snow. After midnight, the precipitation will shift eastward, leading to clearer skies over the entire region. Northeasterly winds will blow at speeds of 5-10 m/s, with gusts reaching 15 m/s, and along the islands and western coast, wind speeds could peak at 19 m/s. Temperatures will drop, hovering between -11 and -17 degrees Celsius, while coastal areas may see milder conditions of around -7 degrees.

The morning will bring partly cloudy skies with minimal precipitation. Northeasterly winds will persist at 4-8 m/s, with gusts up to 13 m/s near the western coast reaching 16 m/s. Generally, temperatures will range from -12 to -18 degrees Celsius, with coastal regions experiencing temperatures around -8 degrees. As the day progresses, clear and partly cloudy conditions are expected to continue, with no significant precipitation.
