Muchová to play for the title in Doha, turned the match against the Greek player around decisively
Karolína Muchová advanced to the finals of the WTA Tour tournament in Doha after a comeback victory against Greece's Maria Sakkari.
Karolína Muchová has reached the finals of the WTA Tour tournament in Doha for the seventh time in her career. The fourteenth seeded Czech player faced a challenge in her semi-final match against Greece's Maria Sakkari but ultimately triumphed with a scoreline of 3:6, 6:4, 6:1. In an upcoming battle for her second title, she will clash with Canada's Victoria Mboko, who defeated Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko in the other semi-final match.
During the semi-final, Muchová initially lost her first set but demonstrated resilience by breaking back after losing her serve at the beginning of the second set. With five consecutive games, she not only leveled the match but also took the momentum moving into the final set. She dominated Sakkari in the third set, racing to a 5:0 lead before ultimately converting her second match point after two and a quarter hours of play.
In a post-match interview, Muchová reflected on the match's turning point, admitting she was unsure how she managed to overturn the deficit. She emphasized her focus on playing each point and fighting for every game, acknowledging Sakkari's excellent performance but ultimately outmatching her in the final stages of the match.
