Rio Branco neighborhood undergoes cleaning after flooding from the Acre River; families have returned home
After flooding from the Acre River, 39 families in Rio Branco have returned home, although some families continue to face housing challenges due to structural risks.
In the aftermath of recent flooding from the Acre River, which saw water levels drop below ten meters early this week, all 39 families and their 28 pets who were temporarily housed at the Parque de Exposições Wildy Viana in Rio Branco have returned to their homes. While this return to normalcy for many is a positive development, five families remain unable to return due to structural concerns about their homes and are expected to move into social rent accommodations. The community, particularly the Bairro da Base, one of the hardest-hit areas, is currently undergoing a comprehensive cleaning process which includes the removal of mud and sand. This effort is key to restoring the living conditions in the neighborhood, which suffered significant damage. The local Civil Defense coordinator, Lieutenant Colonel Cláudio Falcão, emphasized the importance of supporting families who cannot return due to the risk to their homes by facilitating their transition into temporary housing solutions. As part of the city's response to the flooding, there is ongoing attention and assistance being provided to families in need, with 23 families having been previously placed in social housing. Authorities are actively working to ensure that those affected by the disaster receive the necessary support to recover and rebuild their lives.
