Darta Zunte, a trailblazing athlete who became the first Estonian skeleton racer to compete in the Olympics, is currently placed 23rd after the two initial runs held in Cortina. In her first run on Friday, Zunte started strongly with a quick launch time of 4.96 seconds, positioning her 14th among the 25 competitors. She ultimately completed the run with a time of 58.88 seconds, sharing the 22nd spot with South Korea's Hong Sujung, while Puerto Rico's Kellie Delka and South Africa's Nicole Burger trailed behind her. The fastest run was achieved by Austrian Janine Flock, who clocked in at 57.22 seconds, leaving Zunte 1.66 seconds behind.
In the second run, held in reversed order, Zunte went third and finished with a time of 58.71 seconds, with a launch time of 4.98 seconds, again placing her 14th in terms of start time. Her combined total time for the two runs is 1:57.59, solidifying her 23rd position overall. Austrian Flock continues to lead the competition with a remarkable time of 1:54.48, placing her ahead of three German competitors who followed closely behind. Zunte's participation marks a significant moment in Estonian sports history, showcasing her as a pioneering athlete on this international stage.
