The Suwałki Gap in the Hands of the Kremlin? NATO Chief Responds to German War Game, Expert with a Counter
A recent German war game scenario raises concerns about potential Russian control over the Suwałki Gap and its implications for NATO.
On December 1, 2025, the German newspaper Die Welt, in collaboration with the German Centre for War Studies at the University of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg, organized a comprehensive war game involving retired military commanders, former high-ranking international officials, diplomats, and security experts. Participants were tasked with stepping into the roles of top decision-makers in Germany, NATO, Russia, and the United States to navigate a crisis scenario involving Ukraine, Russia, and NATO forces. The scenario unfolds following a forced peace agreement for Ukraine and includes Russian military drills in Belarus, with an ensuing attack on a NATO member nation purportedly justified by a fabricated video of German soldiers abusing Russian-speaking teenagers in Lithuania.
