Brazilian nanny sentenced to 10 years in prison for involvement in murder in the US
Brazilian nanny Juliana Peres Magalhães has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in the United States for her involvement in a double murder.
Juliana Peres Magalhães, a Brazilian nanny, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by a court in Fairfax County, Virginia, for her role in the murders of Christine Banfield and Joseph Ryan in 2023. Along with her prison term, she will also face two years of probation. At the time of the murders, Magalhães was involved in a romantic relationship with Brendan Banfield, Christine's husband, which prosecutors claimed was a motivating factor behind the crime.
The investigation revealed that Magalhães and Brendan Banfield had devised a plan to murder Christine, which included utilizing a fetish website and the use of firearms. In her testimony, Magalhães stated that the intent behind the crime was to enable her and Brendan to be together without the obstruction of Christine's presence. This indication of premeditation and collaboration between the two individuals was critical in the court's decision to convict her.
Since the time of the crime, Juliana has been in custody and later accepted a plea deal with the Fairfax County Prosecution, where she confessed to her participation in the murder plot and pleaded guilty to the death of Ryan. Her acceptance of guilt effectively concluded the legal processes against her, which began with serious homicide charges prior to the deal, highlighting the intense emotional and legal turmoil surrounding the case.
