New Brunswick inmate escapes jail by ‘jumping the fence,’ emergency alert issued

A New Brunswick inmate escaped from jail, prompting an emergency alert warning the public to be vigilant.

An emergency alert was issued in New Brunswick following the escape of inmate Todd John Lewis from the Southeast Regional Correctional Centre in Shediac. At approximately 5:20 p.m. on Thursday, Lewis managed to escape by jumping the prison fence and subsequently fled on foot towards Route 15. He is known to have prior weapon-related charges, raising concerns about public safety following his escape.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) were notified of the escape early Friday morning and have since carried out patrols in an effort to locate Lewis. Despite their efforts, he remains at large. Described as about five feet seven inches tall, weighing around 146 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes, Lewis was last seen wearing blue pants, a brown coat, and a black bonnet. The RCMP have expressed concerns that he may be in the Greater Moncton area.

Authorities are urging the public not to approach Lewis if he is spotted, as he is considered potentially armed and dangerous. This incident underlines the need for heightened awareness in the community and serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges related to inmate escapes and public safety.
