Long-Distance Transport: Bahn Promises More Bodycams for Employees

The German railway operator, Deutsche Bahn, plans to equip its frontline employees with bodycams as part of enhanced security measures to protect them from potential threats.

At a security summit held in Berlin, Deutsche Bahn outlined new measures aimed at better protecting its employees. CEO Evelyn Palla announced that by the end of this year, all staff members who interact with customers, especially in long-distance transport and at train stations, will be equipped with bodycams on a voluntary basis. This initiative is intended to increase the safety of workers in the face of rising incidents of violence against railway staff. Additionally, the development of a discreet emergency call button for employees in dangerous situations will be further enhanced, allowing them to alert dispatchers for immediate assistance from police or rescue services at the next station.

Furthermore, Deutsche Bahn intends to increase its security personnel by hiring 200 additional security staff to support the existing 4,000. Starting March 1, train attendants will also have the discretion to check passengers’ identification in addition to tickets. This measure aims to prevent potential conflicts with passengers, enhancing overall safety within the trains and stations. The security summit involved various stakeholders from the railway sector, emphasizing a collaborative approach to improving security measures in public transportation.

These security enhancements come in response to growing concerns about the safety of transport employees amid reports of violent incidents. With the implementation of bodycams and increased security personnel, Deutsche Bahn seeks to foster a safer work environment for its employees, while also ensuring that passengers feel secure during their travels. The positive response from both workers and representatives at the summit indicates that such initiatives may play a critical role in addressing safety challenges in the railway industry.
