Debutant Teder did not advance from the round of 16, gold to Australia
Estonian snowboarder Mai Brit Teder failed to advance past the round of 16 at the Milano Cortina Olympics, while Australian Josie Baff won the gold medal.
At the Milano Cortina Olympics, the women's snowboard cross competition saw a surprising victory from Australian athlete Josie Baff, who managed to secure the gold medal despite entering the finals with a relatively low 17th seed. Mai Brit Teder, who made history as the first Estonian snowboarder to compete at the Olympics, finished 27th in the qualification rounds and was unable to continue past the round of 16.
In the qualification heat, Teder recorded a time of 1:18.10, placing her 27th, which meant she had to participate in a second run to qualify better. She improved her time to 1:18.47 in the second run but was still only 10th among the twelve competitors, thus earning a 30th seed for the main competition. The top performers from the preliminaries included Eva Adamczykova from the Czech Republic, Lea Casta from France, and Noemie Wiedmer from Switzerland.
During the round of 16, Teder faced tough competition, and ultimately, she was outperformed by her rivals, including Wiedmer, Maja-Li Iafrate Danielssoni, and Aline Albrecht. The competition highlighted the rising talent in the sport, exemplified by Baff's unexpected triumph over more established athletes like Adamczykova and Michela Moioli in the finals, demonstrating a significant moment for Australian winter sports.
