The Health Department of Espírito Santo (Sesa) announced that it is investigating a suspected case of type B meningitis involving a 3-year-old child who is hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Alzir Bernardino Alves Children's Hospital and Maternity (Himaba) in Vila Velha, part of the Greater Vitória area. The child is currently in isolation, posing no risk to other patients, although specific details about the child's place of origin and vaccination history have not been disclosed.
As part of the protocol for such cases, Sesa has taken precautionary measures by administering preventive medication to individuals who have been in close contact with the patient. The suspicion of meningitis has been officially reported to the e-SUS Health Surveillance system in accordance with the regulations set by the Ministry of Health.
