Vīgants breaks into the TOP 50 in the Olympic Games 10 km freestyle competition; Norwegian Klæbo wins his third gold

Latvian skier Vīgants finished in the TOP 50 in the men's 10 km freestyle race at the Olympics, while Norway's Klæbo secured his third gold medal.

In the 10 km freestyle event at the Olympic Games, Norwegian skier Johannes Klæbo became the champion for the third time, finishing with a time of 20 minutes and 36.2 seconds. The only competitor to disrupt Norway's dominance was French skier Matiss Deslojs, who took the silver medal just 4.9 seconds behind Klæbo. Einar Hedegard, who was leading at the 9 km mark, faded in the final stretch and settled for bronze, crossing the finish line 14 seconds after Klæbo.

Latvian skier Vīgants made his third appearance at these Olympic Games and finished in the TOP 50, coming in at a time 2 minutes and 12.2 seconds behind Klæbo. He started the race with bib number 4, and other Latvian competitors Niks Saulītis and Lauris Kaparkalējs placed 76th and 77th, respectively, finishing 3 minutes and 57.2 seconds and exactly four minutes behind the winner.

With only two races remaining in the Olympics for the Latvian cross-country skiers, they look forward to the men's sprint qualification scheduled for February 18. This race marks a crucial point for them to secure their standings and potentially improve their performances in the remaining events.
