A girl riding a bicycle was gruesomely bitten by a dog: the owner is forced to pay compensation

A court ruling in Šiauliai, Lithuania, found a dog owner liable for the severe injuries caused to a young girl by her poorly supervised dog, resulting in over 14,000 Euros in compensation payments.

In a recent court ruling in Lithuania's Šiauliai, J. G., the owner of a dog that severely injured a young girl, was found responsible due to her negligence in supervising the animal. The incident took place in the Pakruojo district when the unleashed dog attacked the girl as she was riding her bicycle. The court determined that the dog's owner did not foresee the potential danger of her dog escaping and causing harm, highlighting the issue of pet owner responsibility and safety precautions.

As a result of the court's decision, J. G. has been held financially accountable for the medical expenses associated with the girl's treatment, totaling around 4,950 Euros, in addition to 270 Euros for property damage and 8,000 Euros for non-material damages, bringing the total compensation to over 14,000 Euros. The court opted to absolve her from criminal liability through suspension under probation for three years, enabling her to avoid a criminal record while still facing significant financial repercussions.

Judge Augustinas Mitkus, who presided over the case, remarked on the seriousness of the girl's injuries and the critical importance of responsible pet ownership. This ruling serves as a reminder of the obligations pet owners have to ensure their animals are not a danger to the community, as well as the potential legal and financial consequences of negligence in animal supervision.
