Up to 15 Centimeters. Meteorologists Warned of Snowfall and Snow Drifts

Meteorologists in Czechia have issued warnings for significant snowfall, expecting between 7 to 15 centimeters in certain regions over the weekend.

During Saturday, February 14, significant snowfall is expected across most areas of the Czech Republic, initially starting with rain or mixed precipitation. In particular, areas around the Czech-Moravian Highlands, central and northern Moravia, and Silesia will see between 7 to 15 centimeters of snow from Saturday evening through Sunday morning, with isolated areas receiving even more. Meteorological authorities have issued warnings that will be in effect from Saturday 20:00 to Sunday 09:00, covering the entire Silesia region, as well as parts of the Pardubice, South Moravian, and Vysočina regions.

As snowfall subsides on Sunday morning, complications in transportation are expected to persist beyond the areas covered by the warning. The primary concern will be due to the formation of snowdrifts, exacerbated by a gentle northern wind expected to continue until Sunday afternoon when it will weaken. Snowdrifts are likely to form notably in the Czech-Moravian Highlands, as well as central and northern Moravia, alongside parts of Silesia. Such conditions could pose challenges for commuters and those travelling in affected regions.

Overall, the adverse weather conditions will require residents to stay alert and prepared for potential disruptions in travel and daily activities, particularly in the warned regions where snowfall accumulation is predicted to be the highest. Local authorities may need to implement contingency measures to ensure public safety as these weather events unfold.
