Nigeria: Dangote Refinery Hits 650,000 Bpd Capacity

The Dangote Refinery in Nigeria has achieved a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, marking a significant operational milestone.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has recently reached a major operational milestone by restoring and optimizing its Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and the Motor Spirit (MS) production block, now achieving a processing capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (Bpd). This milestone reaffirms the refinery's status as the largest oil refining facility in Africa. Following intensive maintenance work, the facility has started an extensive 72-hour performance testing phase, which is part of its Phase 2 operations set to begin next week.

The testing phase is crucial for verifying the operational efficiency of the refinery, with performance assessments being conducted in conjunction with the UOP licensor. These tests aim to ensure that the operations meet global standards, thereby boosting confidence in the refinery's ability to deliver high-quality refined products consistently. This advancement is expected to enhance Nigeria's oil production capacity and contribute significantly to the nation’s economy.

David Bird, the CEO of Dangote Refinery, emphasized the importance of this operational upgrade, which facilitates the seamless integration of various processing units. As the refinery ramps up its production capabilities, it is poised to play a pivotal role in the energy sector, potentially reducing Nigeria's reliance on imported petroleum products and fostering economic growth.
