Young woman beaten in elevator alerted doorman about assaults and asked him to call the police
A young woman in São Vicente, Brazil, was severely beaten by a man in an elevator, having warned her building's doorman about previous assaults and requested police intervention if needed.
In a shocking incident in São Vicente, Brazil, a 26-year-old woman was brutally assaulted by 32-year-old Jonas de Oliveira in an elevator. The building doorman reported that the victim had previously alerted him to repeated assaults and specifically asked him to call the police if the situation escalated again. When the attack occurred, the doorman promptly alerted the building's manager and provided footage from the building's security cameras to law enforcement.
Detective Rogério Nunes Pezzuol of the Women's Defense Police Station (DDM) in São Vicente noted that there was no negligence on the part of the doorman, as the rapidity of the attack left little time for intervention after the call for help. The investigation has focused on collecting testimonies from the doorman, building manager, and other residents, all of whom corroborated the seriousness of the incident, which unfolded last Saturday, November 7.
The distressing surveillance footage of the assault has only begun circulating recently, coinciding with the arrest of Jonas on the same day that the video was released. The footage graphically depicts the heinous nature of the attack, showing the young woman being violently pulled by her hair, held in a chokehold, and thrown against the walls of the elevator. The police were alerted to the incident through an anonymous tip-off and subsequent witness statements, highlighting the communal concern for the victim's safety and the need for swift action against domestic violence.
