Sophie Adenot, between French time and Swiss time
French astronaut Sophie Adenot is set to launch for space on January 13, becoming the second French woman in history to go to space.
Sophie Adenot, a prominent French astronaut, is scheduled to launch into space on the morning of January 13. As she embarks on this historic journey, she will trade her tricolor Yema watch for an official Omega timepiece while aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The intricate task of keeping track of time at a staggering speed of 28,000 km/h, where one experiences sixteen sunsets a day, adds another layer of challenge to her upcoming mission.
At 43 years old, Adenot is not just the second French woman to enter space after Claudie Haigneré, but she also brings a wealth of experience, being the first test pilot of helicopters in the French Air and Space Force and mastering five languages. Her mission, known as Epsilon, will see her residing on the ISS for nine months, during which she is expected to engage in numerous record-breaking activities as a European astronaut, possibly including spacewalks.
With her extensive training across various disciplines, Sophie Adenot is preparing to conduct hundreds of scientific experiments while in orbit. This mission not only underscores her extraordinary capabilities and the advancement of French participation in space exploration but also heralds a new chapter for female astronauts in Europe as they continue to break boundaries in a traditionally male-dominated field.
