On October 13, South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin visited Camp Humphreys, the U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek, marking his first visit since taking office and the first by a South Korean foreign minister in over six years. This visit underscored the importance of the U.S. military presence as a symbol and foundation of the U.S.-South Korea alliance, aimed at reinforcing commitment to strong military cooperation between the two nations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the visit was meant to confirm the steadfast partnership and mutual support between South Korea and the U.S.

During his meeting with Lieutenant General Xavier Brunson, commander of U.S. Forces Korea and the Combined Forces Command, Minister Park Jin praised the general's significant contributions to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and the surrounding region. He urged continued close collaboration between South Korea and the U.S. to ensure a reliable and effective joint defense posture. In response, General Brunson committed to strengthening the U.S.-South Korea alliance's capabilities in light of evolving security challenges and emphasized the importance of regular joint exercises to enhance both nations' practical military readiness.

As both officials acknowledged the momentum gained for strengthening security cooperation at the highest levels of government, they agreed on the need to bolster intergovernmental efforts between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the military authorities of both countries. The visit was also accompanied by members of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, signaling a united front within South Korea on the importance of the U.S.-South Korea alliance in addressing current and future security dynamics.
