Kim Yo-jong: Ministry of Unification to ‘Immediately Implement Measures to Prevent Drone Incidents’

The South Korean Ministry of Unification responds to Kim Yo-jong's demand for measures to prevent the recurrence of drone incidents by committing to implement immediate preventive actions.

In response to a statement from Kim Yo-jong, the Vice Chair of North Korea’s Workers' Party, demanding measures to prevent future drone incursions, the South Korean Ministry of Unification has vowed to take immediate actions to avert similar incidents. During a regular press briefing, spokesperson Yoon Min-ho noted that the ministry is attentive to Kim's remarks and is formulating plans to ensure such events do not happen again. He recognized North Korea’s reaction to recent incidents as indicative of a need for joint efforts to lower tensions on the Korean peninsula.

Yoon Min-ho also emphasized that the South Korean government is consistently working towards reducing tensions and promoting peaceful coexistence on the peninsula. He reiterated the three principles adopted by the government, which include a commitment not to pursue hostile actions or forced unification, while recognizing and respecting the North’s regime. The ministry is particularly concerned about the recent drone incidents, and it is conducting a thorough investigation to ensure that no similar occurrences happen in the future, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

Furthermore, Yoon expressed the hope that both South and North Korea share the same desire for de-escalation and, through sincere and honest communication, can restore the trust that has been eroded during previous administrations. The backdrop of this dialogue indicates a complex web of diplomatic interactions amidst ongoing tensions and the necessity for both sides to engage meaningfully to prevent further incidents that could heighten conflicts on the peninsula.
