Anthropic Raises $30 Billion Investment…Company Value Approaches 545 Trillion Won

Anthropic secures a $30 billion investment, increasing its valuation to $380 billion, narrowing the gap with OpenAI.

Anthropic, the developer of the generative AI 'Claude', has significantly increased its market valuation to $380 billion, closely approaching OpenAI's valuation of $500 billion. On December 12, the company announced it had raised $30 billion in a Series G funding round led by Singapore's GIC and venture firm Coatue, surpassing both its initial target of $10 billion and the revised target of $20 billion. Krishna Rao, CFO of Anthropic, stated that the growing demand for Claude underscores its essential role in business operations. Notable participants in the funding include BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, and the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA).

The rapid growth of Anthropic’s Claude in the enterprise market correlates with increasing investment demand, with the company achieving an annualized revenue of $14 billion within just under three years of its first sales. The number of customers spending over $100,000 annually has increased sevenfold in the past year, with the number of customers spending over $1 million annually rising from 12 two years ago to over 500 currently. This investment will enable Anthropic to continue developing its corporate products and models effectively.

Additionally, on the same day, Anthropic announced a donation of $20 million to Public First Action, a political group advocating for AI regulation. This organization focuses on protective measures for children, workers, and the general public, tightening U.S. export controls on advanced semiconductors, and enhancing transparency among major AI research institutions. Unlike OpenAI, which has advocated for regulatory relief, Anthropic has consistently called for strict regulations on AI, aligning with Public First Action's stance against attempts by the Trump administration to undermine state-level AI company regulations.
