[Exclusive] 'K-Luxury' Wooyoungmi falsely labels 'Q Mark' without quality certification
The K-fashion brand Wooyoungmi has been found to falsely label its clothing with the 'Q Mark' quality assurance certification that it has not actually obtained.
Wooyoungmi, a prominent South Korean K-fashion brand, is under fire for misleadingly labeling its clothing products with the 'Q Mark', a textile quality assurance certification in South Korea, which it has not officially acquired. Investigations revealed that all tags on Wooyoungmi's clothing claim that products are certified by the Korean Textile Testing Institute, yet this institution's validity and its relationship to the certification process are dubious, raising significant consumer trust issues. The actual institutions that issue the Q Mark certifications, namely KATRI and FITI, have confirmed that Wooyoungmi's manufacturing company, Sollid, is not listed as a certified producer among their records.
The Q Mark certification is essential for ensuring product quality and consumer safety, requiring rigorous testing standards for safety, durability, and textile properties. An industry insider highlighted that the Q Mark serves as a key indicator for consumers' trust in product quality, pointing out that misleading consumers by placing this mark without an actual certification is equivalent to deception. In response to the revelations, a representative from Sollid acknowledged the oversight, attributing it to a lack of proper handover after a staff change. They claimed that the certification displayed was outdated and are currently investigating the issue further, while also admitting that similar misleading markings were found on their other brand, Solid Homme.
