Gwangju City to Hire 624 Public Officials This Year, Three Times Last Year
Gwangju City plans to hire 624 public officials in 2026, marking a near threefold increase from last year's 210.
Gwangju City has announced its decision to hire 624 public officials in 2026, which is a significant increase from the 210 positions filled last year, nearly tripling the recruitment numbers. This move is part of a broader response to various administrative demands, such as responding to the integration of Gwangju and Jeonnam's administrations, the consolidation of civilian and military airports, and the implementation of nationwide integrated care programs called Gwangju-Daum. Additionally, the city aims to address turnover from retirements and absences before finalizing this hiring plan.
The hiring process is organized to be conducted in two phases: the first phase will see the recruitment of 615 officials in 21 roles ranging from grades 8 to 9 and research positions during the first half of the year, while the second phase will involve filling nine positions in grades 7 and other roles in the second half. Specifically, the breakdown includes 408 positions for administrative roles, 213 for technical roles, and 3 for research positions, showcasing the cityβs focus on diversifying the workforce across various sectors.
In addition to standard recruitment, Gwangju City has set aside positions for marginalized groups, including 7 slots for individuals with disabilities and 13 for low-income applicants. The city's new implementation of a specialized recruitment track for high school graduates in technical fields further encourages participation, ensuring that those with relevant qualifications can apply for these positions. Exams for these roles will take place in June and October, with final results to be announced in September and December, respectively.
