MP recommends that Bonfim cancel the assignment of a guard acting as private security for former mayor
The Roraima Public Ministry recommended the immediate cancellation of a municipal guard's assignment to the Association of Municipalities of Roraima, where he reportedly works as private security for former mayor Joner Chagas.
The Public Ministry of Roraima has issued a recommendation for the Bonfim City Hall to annul a decree that assigned a municipal guard to the Association of Municipalities of Roraima (AMR). The concern arises from the fact that the guard, who is funded by public resources, is allegedly functioning as personal security for Joner Chagas, the former mayor of Bonfim. This situation raises ethical and legal questions about the use of public servants for private purposes.
In response to the recommendation, the Bonfim City Hall has denied any wrongdoing, asserting that the assignment of the guard to the AMR is legitimate. They stated that Joner Chagas, in addition to being a former mayor, currently serves as the president of the association, which adds an element of public service to the guard's duties. The city administration insists that the guard's position is within legal boundaries.
This issue highlights critical governance concerns around the ethical allocation of municipal resources and the potential misuse of public servants for private gain. The outcome of the Public Ministry's recommendation may shape future policies regarding the assignment and oversight of public employees in Brazil, especially in relation to political figures and their associations.
