Metropolitan automotive sector creates the CHAM to bridge gaps in the industry

The metropolitan automotive sector in Mexico has established the CHAM to address talent shortages and enhance industry competitiveness.

In a significant move for the industrial competitiveness of the region, the automotive sector in Mexico has formally created the Metropolitan Automotive Skills Council (CHAM). This new organization is tasked with identifying and defining the profiles and competencies required by the industry across several key areas, including the State of Mexico, Mexico City, and Hidalgo. The establishment of CHAM comes as part of a broader national initiative, known as Plan Mexico, aimed at creating sectoral councils to bridge the talent gaps faced by various industries.

CHAM will operate regionally, focusing on skill development needs, designing qualification frameworks, and improving training standards. The council is positioned to play a crucial role in addressing the growing demand for skilled labor in the automotive sector, which has seen a rise in job opportunities and technological advancements in recent years. Furthermore, an emphasis will be placed on private sector leadership to ensure that the council effectively tightens the alignment between educational outcomes and industry requirements.

The formal establishment of CHAM, marked by the signing of the founding act on February 12, 2025, at the offices of the Inter-American Development Bank, highlights the commitment of both public and private stakeholders in fostering a skilled workforce. This collaboration is expected to enhance the region's competitiveness in the automotive industry, ultimately benefiting economic growth and employment in the area as companies seek to meet evolving technological demands.
