University Council approves specializations in Social Work at UNAM
The UNAM University Council has approved new specializations in Mental Health Social Work and Social Work Expert Testimony.
The University Council of UNAM has recently approved the creation of new academic plans and programs for specializations in Social Work, specifically focusing on Mental Health and Social Work Expert Testimony. This decision aims to enhance the academic and professional training of social workers, equipping them with necessary theoretical, methodological, and technical knowledge to develop effective intervention strategies tailored to support individuals dealing with mental health issues.
The specialization in Mental Health Social Work will be conducted in a face-to-face format over two semesters, requiring the completion of 68 credits. The course is designed to prepare social work professionals to adopt a multi and interdisciplinary approach while implementing rights-based strategies that consider gender perspectives and sustainability. This educational initiative reflects UNAM's commitment to addressing the growing importance of mental health in society and enhancing the capabilities of social workers to contribute meaningfully to the field.
On the other hand, the specialization in Social Work Expert Testimony is intended to train professionals capable of providing expert opinions in legal and social contexts. By developing these specializations, UNAM aims to foster higher academic standards and improve the quality of social work practice in Mexico, ultimately benefiting diverse social sectors in need of specialized interventions. This move is expected to strengthen the role of social workers in both healthcare and legal frameworks, thereby facilitating better support systems for those they serve.
