Putin Rejected Trump's Plan
Russia announced that it will not participate in a meeting led by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the establishment of a peace council.
Russia has officially stated that it will not send a delegation to the inaugural meeting of what U.S. President Donald Trump has termed the "peace council." Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted that no representatives from Moscow will be attending and that the Russian Foreign Ministry is still trying to ascertain the topics that the council will address. This decision reflects the ongoing tensions in U.S.-Russia relations and the skepticism that surrounds any formal talks initiated by the Trump administration.
Additionally, European Unionโs high representative for foreign affairs, Kaja Kallas, remarked that holding elections in Ukraine during wartime would not be advisable. Her comments underscore the complications and sensitivities surrounding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, as well as the international community's cautious approach to any political developments within the region amid heightened military tensions.
Ukrainian officials have also pointed out that Russia's move to reject Trump's initiative comes amidst its own internal struggles, particularly highlighting a self-inflicted issue related to its oil exports. This situation further complicates the geopolitical landscape, drawing attention to Russia's need for stable economic conditions while also navigating diplomatic pressures from both the United States and its European counterparts.
