‘He loves me, he loves me not’ on your cell phone: 8.6 million Mexicans seek their ‘better half’ on apps
The digital search for love in Mexico is growing, with an estimated 8.6 million people actively using dating applications.
In Mexico, the quest for romantic relationships has increasingly shifted toward a digital realm, with a staggering 8.6 million individuals reported to be currently active on various dating apps such as Tinder, Bumble, Facebook Dating, Badoo, Grindr, and Match. This trend reflects a significant change in social interaction, particularly influenced by the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, which seems to have spurred more users to turn to online platforms for finding romantic partners.
According to the study titled 'Love in the Times of Telecom' conducted by the consultancy The CIU, the frequency of app usage has risen notably. As of early 2026, users are engaging with the apps approximately 2.7 times a week, an increase from 2.4 times the previous year. The data suggests that the dynamics of using these platforms not only remained intact since the pandemic but have intensified, highlighting an ongoing societal shift towards digital dating practices.
Interestingly, 22.3 percent of individuals who have ever used a dating app are currently in pursuit of a significant other through these platforms. This statistic underscores a cultural transformation in the way romance is approached in Mexico, showcasing how a substantial part of the population is adapting to modern methods for relationship-building in an increasingly fast-paced and technology-driven environment.
