Kogi Assembly Seeks Rehabilitation of Technical Colleges
The Kogi State House of Assembly has urged the state government to urgently rehabilitate and upgrade technical colleges, particularly the Government Technical College in Ankpa, to meet modern educational standards.
The Kogi State House of Assembly has taken a significant step by urging the state government, led by Governor Ahmed Ododo, to prioritize the urgent rehabilitation of Government Technical College in Ankpa, along with other technical colleges in the state. This call to action reflects growing concerns among lawmakers regarding the deteriorating conditions of technical educational facilities essential for vocational training and skill development in the region.
The resolution emerged during a recent assembly session where Hon. Lawal Akus, the representative for Ankpa I State Constituency, highlighted the severe infrastructural decay and lack of necessary equipment at the Government Technical College. Emphasizing the college's role in producing skilled labor and addressing local skills shortages, Akus pointed out that many facilities remain non-functional, which undermines the quality of education and vocational training provided to students.
The lawmakers' call for comprehensive renovations aims to modernize classrooms, workshops, laboratories, and hostels, thereby enhancing the overall educational environment. As technical and vocational education becomes increasingly crucial for workforce development in Nigeria, the Kogi State Assembly's initiative highlights the need for government investment and commitment to revamping educational institutions to meet current and future demands in various job sectors.
