During Claudia Sheinbaum's term as the head of the government in Mexico, a total of 1,126 mining concessions have been recovered, equating to an area of 889,502 hectares. This initiative was explained by Fernando Aboitiz, the head of the Coordination Unit of Extractive Activities at the Ministry of Economy, in a press conference at the National Palace. The recovered area is comparable to the size of the state of Querétaro, underscoring the significance of this achievement. Moreover, it is notable that nearly 250,000 hectares of these concessions were located in protected natural areas, emphasizing the government's focus on environmental preservation.

Aboitiz highlighted that out of the total recovered concessions, 713 were situated within 249,108 protected natural areas. The policy under the Fourth Transformation movement aims to ensure that no mining concessions exist in these vital ecological zones.
