As Russia Continues Attacks, Volodymyr Zelensky Says Moscow Is Hesitant About Next Negotiation Phase
Volodymyr Zelensky announced Ukraine's readiness to participate in further negotiations with Russia, while expressing uncertainty about Russia's commitment to the talks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that the United States has proposed to host further negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Miami or Abu Dhabi next week. Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine has 'immediately agreed' to attend the meeting. However, he noted that Russia appears to be hesitant about its participation, reflecting ongoing uncertainty in the peace talks amid continuing military operations.
On Thursday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov indicated that another round of negotiations is expected to occur 'soon', but he did not provide further details on the matter. The planned talks are part of an ongoing peace effort initiated by the administration of former President Donald Trump, aimed at resolving the conflict that has resulted in significant casualties and destruction across Europe.
Despite diplomatic efforts, Russia continues its aggressive stance, bombarding Ukraine as the conflict remains unresolved. Disputes over territorial control, particularly regarding eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region, persist, complicating the negotiations. The United States hopes to see the conflict end by mid-year, but the reality on the ground suggests that achieving peace will be a challenging endeavor.
