In the second consecutive Olympic final, Hemerle surpasses Grondean in snowboard cross
Alesandro Hemerle of Austria secured his second consecutive gold in snowboard cross by defeating Canada's Elliott Grondean at the Olympic Games.
Alesandro Hemerle from Austria triumphed in the snowboard cross finals at the Olympic Games, successfully defending his title by beating Canada's Elliott Grondean, whom he also defeated four years prior in Beijing. The margin of victory this time increased from two-tenths of a second in 2022 to three-tenths of a second in this latest competition, showcasing Hemerle's exceptional skill and consistency in the event. In the thrilling finish for the bronze medal, Austria's Jakob Dusek claimed third place, while France's Aidan Chole finished without a medal despite being in the finals. This win reflects the ongoing dominance of Austrian athletes in snowboard cross, reinforcing Hemerle’s status as a leading competitor on the Olympic stage, particularly in his repeat victory against a formidable opponent like Grondean. Additionally, at the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games, Australian athlete Cooper Woods clinched the gold medal in the freestyle skiing mogul discipline with a very competitive score, equal to that of Canada's Mikaël Kingsbury. However, Woods' superior technical execution was highlighted by the judges, leading him to victory despite Kingsbury's stellar reputation in the sport. In the competition for bronze, Japan's Ikuma Horishima secured third place, marking a repeat of his performance at the previous Olympics, where he also earned a bronze medal.
