'Significant Service Deterioration' Coming in Nyborg After Million-Kroner Hole in Municipal Budget
Nyborg Municipality has unveiled a budget plan featuring significant cuts due to a 72 million kroner deficit.
Nyborg Municipality has announced a list of 158 specific budget cuts in response to a substantial deficit of 72 million kroner. The proposed cuts will heavily impact essential services, especially in education and social care. Key recommendations include significant reductions in school and daycare services, as well as the closure of the municipality's volunteer center and senior activity centers.
In addition to service cuts, the municipality plans to raise fees for after-school care (SFO) and implement a new policy mandating that seniors receiving home care will only be entitled to one bath per week starting in 2027. The plan also suggests dropping a previously praised initiative that provided free menstrual products in public schools, reflecting a broader trend of cutbacks in social services.
Vice Mayor Lone Smidt (Socialdemokratiet) described the proposed savings catalog as 'harsh reading', acknowledging the significant reduction in services that citizens will face as a result of these budgetary constraints. The decision reflects the municipality's challenges in managing its finances while attempting to maintain essential services for its residents, raising concerns about the overall social impact of such cuts.
