Sudanese walks hundreds of kilometers to collect donations for children in his country

A Sudanese model and activist, Jal Malwal, undertook a 1,450-kilometer trek from southern England to northern Scotland to raise funds for schools for displaced children in Sudan.

Jal Malwal, a Sudanese model and activist, embarked on an inspiring journey covering around 1,450 kilometers, aiming to raise donations for building schools for displaced children in Sudan. His walk, which took more than a month, began in southern England and culminated in the far north of Scotland, where he faced extreme weather conditions and significant physical and psychological challenges while walking several miles each day in freezing temperatures.

Malwal intentionally chose to undertake his trek during winter to empathize with the daily struggles faced by Sudanese people, highlighting that if he had done this in summer, it would merely feel like a normal adventure. He endured harsh conditions, including walking on ice and snow for hours daily, often battling temperatures plunging to five or six degrees below freezing, with his feet cold and wet throughout the journey. Despite the adversity, his motivation to continue remained rooted in the suffering of the Sudanese people.

Throughout this arduous journey, Malwal was accompanied by his friend, John Koi, who shared the same goal of raising awareness and funds for those affected in Sudan. The trek not only served as a means to gather donations but also as a powerful statement of solidarity with his compatriots who face ongoing hardships, reinforcing the importance of international support and recognition for the challenges faced by Sudanese children.
