Alternate takes office after councilman Chico 2000 is suspended on suspicion of corruption in Cuiabá

After councilman Chico 2000 was suspended due to corruption allegations, Fellipe Corrêa has been sworn in as his replacement in Cuiabá's City Council.

The City Council of Cuiabá has officially sworn in Fellipe Corrêa as the new councilman after the suspension of Chico 2000, who is under investigation for corruption linked to the Gorjeta operation. This event occurred on July 12, following Chico's previous suspension in January due to suspicions of involvement in corrupt practices. As Chico currently holds no party affiliation, his future in the council remains uncertain amidst ongoing legal inquiries.

This marks the second time that Corrêa has occupied this position as a substitute councilman; he previously served in May 2025 when Chico was initially removed due to separate allegations during the Perfídia operation. Corrêa’s reinstatement came after he resigned from his role as the municipal secretary for Institutional Relations, leaving that office currently without a new representative, which raises concerns about the administrative transition within the municipal government.

The Gorjeta operation targets a presumed scheme of embezzlement of public funds within the City Council and the Municipal Sports Secretariat of Cuiabá. Besides the issuance of search and seizure warrants, the justice system has mandated the suspension of several individuals involved from their public duties, illustrating ongoing efforts to address corruption in local governance and ensuring accountability among elected officials.
