Natal Carnival has free bus lines; learn how to use the service

The city of Natal has launched a special public transport operation offering free bus services for the Carnaval 2026 festivities, which will run from February 12 to February 17.

The city of Natal has organized a special public transport scheme for the upcoming Carnaval 2026, featuring free and special bus lines alongside an increased fleet of vehicles. The operation is set to start on February 12, coinciding with the traditional Mask Ball at Largo do Atheneu, and will continue until February 17, covering the entire Carnaval period. During this six-day festival, the public transport system will provide over 963.5 additional trips, with a peak of 89 extra buses in operation on the busiest day, according to the local Urban Mobility Secretariat (STTU). In addition to the extensive increase in transit services, the special lines designated as SE (Serviço Eventual) and all lines within the Corujão network will operate free of charge as part of the Transporte Folião initiative. This move is aimed at making Carnaval more accessible to the public. Regular fare will be applied to other lines in the public transport system for those not utilizing the special services. With this initiative, the city aims to enhance the festive experience by ensuring easy access to various Carnaval events and festivities, thus promoting participation among residents and visitors alike. The comprehensive planning and execution of the transport operation are crucial for a smooth and enjoyable carnival experience, which significantly contributes to the local economy and culture during this vibrant period.
