Changes in the CNH: students can cancel auto school contracts and request refunds; understand
New regulations allow students to cancel auto school contracts for the CNH and receive refunds for uncompleted classes without penalties in Brazil.
A recent announcement from the Consumer Protection Program of Mato Grosso, Brazil, enables students enrolled in auto schools to cancel their contracts for obtaining a Brazilian National Driver's License (CNH) and request a full refund for any classes that were not completed, without incurring any penalties. This move comes as part of new regulations that remove mandatory hours for theoretical courses, thereby changing the structure of driver education in the state.
The Procon-MT has noted that while students can receive refunds for uncompleted lessons, any fees paid for completed classes are non-refundable. This change highlights the importance of transparency and fairness in auto school pricing, as the Procon-MT also indicated that charges for lesson packages should be adjusted in accordance with the number of classes provided, in response to the new regulatory framework.
As these regulations take effect, many students who were already enrolled in auto schools before these changes are confused about their rights. The Procon-MT aims to clarify these concerns, ensuring that all students are aware of their rights under the new CNH issuance rules, thus emphasizing consumer protection in the driving education sector in Brazil.
