A 23-year-old babysitter was indicted for stealing luxury watches valued at approximately R$ 10,000 from her former employer in Boa Vista, Brazil, following her boyfriend's social media post showcasing one of the stolen items.
A 23-year-old babysitter in Boa Vista, Brazil, has been indicted for stealing two luxury watches worth around R$ 10,000 from her former employer's home. The theft reportedly took place in October 2025, but it came to light only when the victim recognized one of the watches being displayed by the babysitter's boyfriend on social media. This recognition prompted the victim to file a police report in February of the following year, which started the investigation into the incident.
After being summoned to the police station, the boyfriend explained that he had received the watch as a gift from his girlfriend. Upon learning about the watchβs dubious origin, he cooperated with the police and returned it. The babysitter was interrogated and initially claimed that she had purchased the items herself, but authorities speculated that her boyfriendβs online display significantly impacted the investigation by leading to her identification as a suspect.
The case highlights the repercussions of social media in criminal investigations, particularly regarding possessions obtained through illegal means. It also raises concerns about trust and relationships, as the babysitter's actions not only risked her legal standing but also the trust of her former employer, showcasing a troubling breach in personal and professional boundaries.
