Two drug trafficking suspects die in confrontation with police in MT

Two men suspected of drug trafficking were killed in a confrontation with the police in Barra do Garças, Brazil.

In a violent confrontation on Wednesday, the 11th, in Barra do Garças, Mato Grosso, two men suspected of drug trafficking lost their lives during an engagement with the Tactical Force of the Military Police. The deceased, identified as Maxsuel Sousa and Adelmo Oliveira da Silva, both aged 29, were reportedly armed and engaged police after refusing to comply with orders to drop their weapons. According to official records, Maxsuel had a long criminal history, including over 30 arrests related to drug trafficking, homicide, robbery, and illegal firearm possession, while Adelmo also had previous charges involving threats and unlawful reception of goods.

The police had acted on intelligence reports indicating suspicious activity near Praia da Rapadura, where the two suspects were reportedly seen behaving dangerously in a thicket near the Garças River. Upon coming closer, the officers observed the men armed and ordered them to surrender. The suspects allegedly responded with gunfire, leading to the exchange that resulted in their deaths.
