Father, 38, Protected His Daughter with Dire Consequences
A court sentenced a 54-year-old man to 10.5 years in prison for murder and attempted murder after shooting at a father and daughter, resulting in the father's death.
The Itä-Uudenmaan District Court has sentenced Tom Markus Dahlberg, a 54-year-old man from Porvoo, to 10.5 years in prison for the murder of a 38-year-old father and for attempted murder against his 18-year-old daughter. The incident occurred on October 15, 2025, when Dahlberg shot at the father and daughter during a dispute over a debt of one thousand euros, which Dahlberg claimed was owed to him. The court determined that the shooting was not an accident, contrary to Dahlberg's assertion that the gun discharged unintentionally.
The court highlighted that both victims were in life-threatening situations and that it was purely coincidental which victim was hit by the shotgun pellets. The father was definitively protecting his daughter when Dahlberg aimed the weapon at them, demonstrating the gravity of the situation they faced. Despite Dahlberg’s claim that the incident was accidental, the court found no supporting evidence for this narrative, emphasizing the violent nature of the attack.
After the shooting, the daughter was able to escape and sought refuge with a relative, highlighting the traumatic impact the event had on her. The incident underscores the severe ramifications of domestic disputes escalating into violence, as well as the legal consequences stemming from acts of aggression in family contexts.
