Food alert due to possible plastic fragments in hamburger meat preparations

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition has warned about possible plastic fragments found in hamburger meat preparations from Cárnicas Gallego.

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan) issued a warning regarding the possible presence of plastic fragments in two types of minced meat products produced by Cárnicas Gallego. The affected products include pure beef and a mixed beef and pork preparation meant for hamburgers, both bearing the lot number 6061 and a 'use by' date of February 13, 2026. Aesan has advised consumers who may have purchased these items to refrain from consuming them until further notice.

The alert was triggered after Aesan received a notification from the region of Aragón through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (SCIRI). The initial distribution of the contaminated products has reportedly included the regions of Aragón and Castilla-La Mancha, highlighting the potential wide reach of this food safety issue. Cárnicas Gallego has cooperated with health authorities by relaying information pertaining to the contamination incident.

As incidents of food contamination raise concerns about safety standards in the food industry, this alert underscores the importance of rigorous monitoring and rapid response systems. The potential health risks associated with consuming such contaminated products could lead to greater scrutiny and regulatory measures to ensure consumer protection in the future.
