Police temporarily closed a section of the Klaipėda–Kaunas highway
The police have temporarily closed a stretch of the A1 highway in Lithuania due to a truck that slid off the road, causing traffic delays.
The Tauragė County Police Chief has announced temporary restrictions on the main highway A1 in the Šilalė region of Lithuania. This closure was necessary due to a truck that had slid off the road, requiring technical assistance to clear the vehicle. According to an official from the Tauragė Police, the police received assistance requests at 11:46 AM, indicating an urgent need to address the incident to prevent further traffic disruptions.
Traffic reports from the 'Klaipėdos reidai II' Facebook group highlighted the severity of the situation, with one user advising travelers to allocate extra time if heading towards Kaunas from the port city of Klaipėda. The user noted traffic congestion was significant due to the truck sliding off approximately 70 kilometers away from Klaipėda. Fortunately, police confirmed that there were no injuries reported, thus medical assistance was not required, and the efforts were solely focused on technical recovery operations.
Following updates from both the Tauragė Police and navigation application Waze, it was projected that by around 1 PM the obstacles on the A1 highway would be resolved, minimizing inconvenience for motorists. The event illustrates the impact of traffic incidents on major roadways and emphasizes the importance of timely police intervention in ensuring safety and fluid traffic flow on the highways.
