In a recent incident in Rovaniemi, Finland, a Swedish citizen allegedly stole a food delivery vehicle from the city center on Sunday. He drove the vehicle towards the Finnish-Russian border and made an attempt to cross into Russia on Monday. During his stay in Rovaniemi, the man also utilized a bank card found in the vehicle to make minor purchases at a local gas station, raising suspicions among authorities.

On Monday evening, the suspect reached a temporarily closed border crossing point in Salla. Reports indicate that he climbed over a closed gate to enter the area. Law enforcement was quick to respond, apprehending the man just beyond the gate. He reportedly expressed a desire to enter Russia at the border point, but his attempts were thwarted by the Border Guard, who were vigilant in their patrols.

Upon being tested, the man registered a blood alcohol level that exceeded the limit for severe intoxication, leading to additional charges against him. Alongside the state border violation, he is suspected of gross drunk driving, vehicle theft, and minor fraud related to the use of the bank card. This case highlights the ongoing issues regarding border security and crime in the region, prompting discussions on preventative measures against such incidents in the future.
