Lithuania's oldest resident celebrated her 110th birthday
Lithuania's oldest resident, L.Kontrimienė, celebrated her 110th birthday with greetings from local officials in Joniškio.
L.Kontrimienė, a resident of Beržėnai senior home in Joniškio district, celebrated her remarkable 110th birthday this past weekend. Local officials, including the district's vice-mayor Indrė Stalnionienė and the head of the Social Assistance and Health Department Laima Klemienė, attended the celebrations to honor her extraordinary life, as announced on the municipality's Facebook page. Born on February 7, 1916, in the small farming community of Buožėnai, she grew up in a family with five sisters and two brothers before marrying farmer Dominykas Kontrimas at the age of 25, with whom she had a daughter named Milda.
L.Kontrimienė worked at the Telšiai knitwear factory "Mastis" and lived in various locations including Telšiai and Kuršėnai. As confirmed by the Register Center on Thursday, she is currently recognized as Lithuania’s oldest living resident. Following her in age among the oldest women in Lithuania is a 107-year-old girl from Varėna district, while the oldest man in Lithuania has reached the age of 104 and resides in Vilnius. This highlights the remarkable longevity found within the country and the increasing celebrations around the elderly population in Lithuania, emphasizing the need for community respect and appreciation for the elderly, as they preserve the rich history and stories of the nation.
