East Africa: Tanzania Tops Region in Cybersecurity Standards
Tanzania has been recognized as the leader in East Africa for online safety management, ranking among the top 45 nations globally in cybersecurity standards according to the Global Cybersecurity Index released by the ITU.
Tanzania has established itself as a leader in cybersecurity within East Africa, according to the recently published Global Cybersecurity Index by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The country's Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Angellah Kairuki, announced this ranking during a ceremony in Dodoma, marking the 22nd Safer Internet Day, which aims to promote responsible internet usage.
The significance of this announcement is underscored by Tanzania's ranking among the top 45 nations worldwide, highlighting its commitment to improving online safety measures and cybersecurity framework. This reflects a broader regional effort to ensure that internet use is safe and productive, especially in light of increasing reliance on digital tools and platforms for everyday activities.
The theme for this year's Safer Internet Day, "Smart Tech, Safe Choices: Protecting Children in the Age of AI," emphasizes the urgent need for parents and educators to be more proactive in safeguarding children against potential online risks as technology continues to advance. This recognition not only boosts Tanzania's reputation on the global stage but also signals its strategic intent to place a stronger focus on cybersecurity as a critical area in the national development agenda.
