VG: Raid related to Epstein investigation at the home of Norway's former Prime Minister
Norwegian police conducted a raid at the home of former Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland as part of an investigation linked to Jeffrey Epstein.
Norwegian police unit Økokrim, which specializes in economic crimes, has conducted a raid at the home of former Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland. The raid involved the removal of several boxes from the residence, indicating a serious investigation. According to VG, the inquiry may be connected to alleged ties between Jagland and Jeffrey Epstein, a businessman convicted of sexual crimes, during Jagland's tenure as Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
The timing of the raid is significant, as the Council of Europe recently lifted Jagland's immunity from prosecution. Økokrim has informed the Council that they are investigating whether gifts, travel expenses, private holidays, and loans mentioned in Epstein's records could be considered bribes received by Jagland in connection to his official duties. This has raised serious ethical and legal questions regarding Jagland's conduct and his previous professional dealings.
Additionally, it has come to light that Jagland had sought assistance from Epstein in obtaining a bank loan, although it remains unclear whether Epstein actually provided aid. As this investigation unfolds, it could lead to broader implications regarding the integrity of political figures and the influence of wealthy individuals on governance, especially concerning allegations of corruption within high offices.
