In Haava village, the roof of a house collapsed due to fire; in Põltsamaa municipality, a garage along with a car, storage, and shelter were affected
A house roof in Haava village collapsed due to a fire caused by heating cables, with damage to the structure and adjacent garage.
In Haava village, Estonia, a house experienced a fire that eventually led to the collapse of its roof. The event took place yesterday shortly before 1 p.m., when emergency services were alerted to reports of smoke emanating from the residence. Fortunately, the elderly couple living in the house responded to the smoke alarm and managed to evacuate with the help of paramedics before firefighters arrived on the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters noted smoke billowing from under the roof, but no flames were visible. The interior of the home was filled with smoke, with fire sources located between the roof, ceilings, and walls. The situation escalated to a significant 53-square-meter fire, which was localized by approximately 2:15 p.m. The fire caused the roof to be nearly completely destroyed, while the house itself suffered considerable smoke and water damage.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been ignited by heating cables connected to a water pipe. This incident highlights the potential risks associated with heating systems in residential structures, particularly in older homes where maintenance may pose challenges, underscoring the importance of regular safety checks to prevent such dangerous situations from occurring in the future.
