Stolen Running Cars – Don't Leave Your Car Unattended
Several incidents of running cars being stolen have been reported in Eastern Uusimaa, prompting police warnings to car owners.
In Eastern Uusimaa, several reports have emerged in January and February indicating that running vehicles have been stolen. The incidents are notably concentrated in areas such as Hyvinkää and Vantaa. Police, represented by Crime Inspector Janne Levälampi, noted that in all cases, the cars were stolen while left running and unattended. In some instances, the keys were left in the ignition, making it even easier for thieves.
The stolen vehicles have been taken from various locations, including driveways, daycare center parking lots, and construction sites. Remarkably, all the stolen vehicles have been recovered within a few days. The police have highlighted that even a brief stop, such as when a car owner pops into a store or drops off a child at daycare, can provide thieves with the opportunity they need to steal a running vehicle. The types of stolen cars have varied, including vans and SUVs, underscoring the need for increased vigilance among car owners.
Moreover, the police caution that insurance policies may not cover thefts that occur when vehicles are left running and unattended. This brings into question the security measures car owners should take, particularly regarding leaving vehicles in ignition, even for short periods. The persistent issue not only affects the car owners but also signals a growing need for awareness and preventive measures in the community to protect property effectively.
