The Nils Storm Will Give Way to Oriana: Very Strong Wind Gusts, Abundant Rain, and Snow at Low Altitudes

A new storm named Oriana is forecasted to bring strong winds, heavy rainfall, and low-altitude snowfall in Spain this Friday and Saturday, according to the State Meteorological Agency.

A new storm, which has been named Oriana, is set to impact Spain significantly this Friday and Saturday, bringing very strong wind gusts alongside heavy rainfall and snowfall at lower altitudes. This warning comes from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) via a message shared on its official social media account. The agency noted that this storm could potentially be the last in a series that has persisted since late December, indicating a prolonged season of adverse weather conditions.

Simultaneously, the preceding storm, Nils, continues to keep 15 autonomous communities on alert due to risks associated with rainfall, snowmelt, waves, and strong winds. Specifically, Cantabria and the Basque Country are under red alerts for coastal conditions, highlighting the severe nature of the weather impacting these regions. In Cantabria, the warnings include significant wave heights ranging from eight to nine meters, coupled with yellow alerts for wind in the same coastal area.

The recent severe weather patterns pose risks not only to public safety but also to infrastructure and local economies, particularly in coastal regions where storm surges and high waves can cause significant damage. As authorities prepare for the upcoming conditions posed by Oriana, the focus will be on mitigating risks and ensuring the safety of residents in affected areas, particularly those vulnerable to flooding and landslides due to the abundant rainfall.
