Approval of the Administrative Integration Special Law Bill… Gwangju City: "Disappointing but Positive"; Civic Groups: "Ragged"

Gwangju City's mayor expressed a mixed reaction following the passage of the administrative integration special law, highlighting both positive developments and significant omissions.

The Administrative Safety Committee of the National Assembly of Korea has passed the special bill for administrative integration between Gwangju and Jeonnam, which the Gwangju City mayor described as 'disappointing but positive'. Mayor Kang Ki-jeong noted that this bill comes 42 days after the integration was declared on the anniversary of the May 18th movement, a crucial moment in the region's history. He mentioned that out of 119 specially requested clauses rejected by the government, 31 were proposed to the Prime Minister, and 19 were accepted, leading to changes in the bill that initially had 386 provisions, which have now increased slightly during the adjustment process with the government.
